2018 Reading Goals

Friday, 29 December 2017

To help me start my book-blogging journey, I have decided to set goals for myself for 2018 in terms of my reading.

Goal One: Blog Consistently

I want to make sure I am posting content online consistently throughout 2018. I have a long, intense placement at the beginning of the year, but after I graduate in June, I'm hoping I will have more time to focus on blogging. Content-wise, I'm hoping to be posting more reviews on here and on Goodreads, book hauls, author reviews etc.

I also want to be consistent in updating my goodreads account, making sure I have reviewed and star-rated books etc.

Goal Two
Read Thirty Books

This goal is a HUGE commitment for me. Last year, I read three books. THREE. Albeit, I read all three within one week.

I had a hellish year in terms of reading, had a lot of other priorities and was also just un-focused and lazy. I think committing myself to thirty will allow me to not read too much during my stressful placement, in the first months of the year, and then read a weekly book throughout the year, which is a doable pace for me, I think.

Goal Three: Read More Broadly

I want to read a lot more broadly in 2018. This includes reading more diversely, reading more own-voice stories, reading more books from different cultures and just reading more widely in terms of genre and author.

However, although I want to read more widely, I also am still reading for pleasure, and so will continue to read my favourite authors, and most of my reading will probably still involve thrillers, since that is my favourite genre. Sorry-not-sorry.

Goal Four: Buy Less, Library More

This year, I have been on a book-buying spree, which is hurting my bank-account somewhat. Next year, I want to re-visit my local library and fall in love with it again. I used to visit the library almost every day when I was little, and haven't set foot in it now, in years. I think it's so important to support your local library and my goal is to support mine next year.

Goal Five: Listen to More Audiobooks.

This is a bit of a weird one, but I think that's just because my OCD-like self can't leave this list at only four goals.

I always read physical copies of all of the books that I read. I don't like e-readers and also don't have one currently, and so only read physical books. However, next year I want to get into listening to more books, even just a few books during the year, on my commute or whilst I make dinner. I feel like this will be a good experience for me, and could be useful in getting through particularly long books.
